I wrote this lovely memoir about our three years living in Maine. Then I saved it and it disappeared forever from the page. This time I summarize. Made great friendships, found new enemies around every corner whose only beef was we weren't born in Maine. “Yer not a Mainah unless yer born a Mainah” one old-timer told me. Did you know that Maine is the only State you can pronounce with no teeth? A Mainer told us that joke. Crusty, with a dry humor, and loyalty that changes as fast as the weather, Maine is a tough place for folks from “far-away” to live and work But we made many good friends (a few may have been Boston transplants) and the State is so beautiful and the seafood so delicious, we can overlook those few ignorant folks who undermined our efforts to leave a place better than we found it. The truth is Maine is so beautiful that leaving it better than you found it is near impossible. How beautiful? Maine is the only State I know where the Mainers do not leave their State to vacation. They buy land in Maine and build camps, usually for their entire extended families to share. A camp can be anything from a converted shed to a mansion.
We miss Maine, even those crusty Mainers grow on you. Here is a list of songs I wrote and recorded in Maine:
