My Cassette Tapes
Rough Mixes, Live Performances, and Brother Rob
Hand Written on a Cassette Label:
"On this side you will find the first two songs I composed (RickFisher) sometime in 1975 (played) probably written in Fall 1973/SPring 1975" Below the label was the hand written title "Classic 1975"
On the flip side in even smaller print on the label it says: "2nd half of tape is [un]intelligible- too bad. Obviously winter of 74/75- senior in high school and very angry with an old girlfriend from Georgia-made a tape-never sent."
The tape, of course is garbled and unintelligible. God makes miracles both large and small.
There is another cassette that was titled "Mahogany Rush Side 1" that wasn't that band at all- it was my oldest brother Rob and I jamming to Neill Young's Down by the River and James Taylor's Fire and Rain. Robs lead vocals are awesome on the Taylor song. My harmonies are horrific. We also taped two songs of mine, Sunchild and Astral Travel On. I was able to transfer and clean them up somewhat and they are available to you below.
I have 50 more tapes to listen to and cassettes take time to review so please bear with me as this will take longer to complete.
8/12/25 update: found a tape with songs I wrote some time between 1986 and 1987 and recorded on a cassette player.
"The Disciple" was going to be my Close to the Edge concept album. Written in 1977
Listening to these old cassette tapes has not been completely joyful. There are tapes of our children when they were very young, of my ex-wife comforting our son. These pure innocent moments are both beautiful and heart-wrenching.
In 1990, less than two months after our daughter was born, I wrote this song and recorded it at Red Rock Studios in Hamilton Twp., Monroe County, PA. The owners were the Heckmans and the studio was large enough for an orchestra and was a favorite recording studio for many jazz artists who often played in Delaware Water Gap's iconic Deerhead Inn. My song was titled "Fear of Falling" and perfectly describes the status of our marriage. It wasn't a good time and I wasn't handling it very well. The Song received Honorable Mention in a National Songwriting competition.
8/13/2025 Today I found a homemade tape with an entire group of of my songs.
